WAS THE MESSIAH REALLY REVEALED IN THE 20TH CENTURY?
Rev. Sun Myoung Moon was born in Korea around 1920 and he was raised a Presbyterian. He claimed he was visited by Jesus on Easter in the year 1935, in what is today North Korea, and was chosen by Jesus to finish the task Jesus was unable to finish. Later he also claimed to have communed with Buddha, Krishna and Moses. Apparently Jesus failed to save and redeem the world so Moon was chosen to have sex with 70 virgins, 70 married women and 70 widows so that he might procreate the Kingdom of God on earth. In 1946 he was arrested by North Korean communists and later released. The Presbyterian Church excommunicated him in 1948. In 1954 he formed the Unification Church and in 1957 published the Divine Principle which is his interpretation of the Bible.
In the Divine Principle Moon teaches that Eve had sex with Satan. This is how sin was passed to the world. So Jesus came to earth to marry a perfect wife but messed everything up by getting himself crucified. Moon believed the New Age was ushered in when in 1960 he married his fourth wife who he said is the Holy Spirit. Moon taught that he was the incarnation of God and God was getting rid of Christianity because Moon was greater than Jesus. Moon concluded that he must be obeyed. Unification Church members also believe in the doctrine of Indemnity. When someone has lost his original position or state, he must make some condition to be restored to his/her original position. The making of such conditions of restitution is called indemnity. God’s work to restore people to their true unfallen state by having them fulfill indemnity conditions is called the providence of restoration through indemnity. Basically people must self correct to attain a conditional heaven. Only when a person gives 100% to the true parents, Moon and his 4th wife Hak Ja Han, can one attain the substantial heaven. To restart the process toward perfection, God has sent messiahs to earth who could restore the true state of humanity’s relationship with God. Before that can happen, however, humans must perform good deeds that cancel the bad effects of sin. Moon called this ‘indemnity’. Showing love and devotion to one’s fellow humans, especially within families, helps pay this indemnity.
Unification Church members have been known to use intense brainwashing to indoctrinate recruits. They then advocate mass marriages to bring new recruits into the Kingdom of God. Moon the proclaimed messiah died in 2012. The Unification Church is now led by Hak Ja Han. The Biblical responses to the Cult of the Unification Church can be found below:
Matt. 24:4-5 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.
2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
Titus 3:4-7 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
In the Unification Church he who claimed Jesus failed in his mission is dead. He was visited by a spirit being like so many others. He believe that he and his followers must procreate the Kingdom of God and of course he like Muhammad and Joseph Smith had divine sanction to have as many women as they wanted. If his followers really want to strive towards perfection they will never attain it. We are only seen as blameless in God’s sight by accepting the True Messiah Jesus who left us an empty tomb as proof that all of his claims are true and lead to our salvation through his saving grace.
