To Catholics Peter is the rock upon which Jesus builds the church. From this Peter and his immediate successors were to lead the church. To non-Catholic Christians the next mention of rock refers to the testimony that Peter gave stating that “You are the messiah the Son of the living God.” Upon these words Jesus will build his church.

Mortal men cannot look upon the “face” of YHVH, God the Father, because it is incomprehensibly awesome. Even Moses was awed just from seeing His “back,” and being in the physical proximity to the Holy Presence.
